Commissioning of Solar Powered Borehole and 700 Meter Road

12th May 2024 was a spectacular day in Nnobi as indigenes, dignitaries and political delegates gathered to celebrate the commissioning of Ifite Ogbeadiji Community Water Scheme and the construction of a 700 meter village access road built by the Sir Pius Ufudo Foundation.

Commissioned by the traditional ruler of Nnobi, HRM Engr. Nick Obi, FNSE, Igwe Omenyili, the project aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, especially with focus on improving health outcomes through access to clean water.

The quest for clean and drinkable water necessitated in drilling over 500 feet into the earth to reach a reliable source of fresh water, a solar powered borehole which would reduce reliance on conventional energy source, a 24,000 liter capacity overhead water reservoir that allows distribution of water through gravitational forces as opposed to the traditional pump station, and a 3km pipeline reticulation network that takes the water to multiple locations.

Uniquely, the scheme features three designated fetching points, each named after remarkable women in Nnobi and a central fetching point named in memory of Late Lady Caroline Nkemakonam Ufudo who was widely known for her benevolence, philanthropy and kindness. By naming the fetching points after remarkable women who played vital role in shaping Nnobi, the project fosters a sense of cultural pride and empowers future generations to draw inspiration from the village’s matriarchs.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Mr Obinna Ufudo in his speech explained that the foundation sought to provide a unique, holistic and sustainable solution in eliminating the challenge of water scarcity and the burden of walking long distance to get water, hence the reason for the project.

Besides Nnobi indigenes who in their joy and excitement came out in mass, the ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Hon. Uche Okonkwo (Member of House of Representatives representing Idemili North & South), Rt. Hon. Barr. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche (Anambra State Commissioner of Special Duties), Iyom Amaka Obidigbo (Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili South LGA) among many others.

This project bear testament to the foundation’s commitment to progress and with continued community focused initiatives, the future of Nnobi is bright.
